Napoleons Casino in Sheffield Becomes Conference Venue
by Ellie Victor
After Napoleons Casino closed in January of last year, work has finally begun on turning it into a brand new conference venue. Napoleons owner, Dave Allen, said at the time of the closure that Ecclesall Road wasn’t what it used to be. He was alluding to the fact that it was a very vibrant and thriving part of Sheffield that had dwindled in popularity over the last few years. With the talk of building work commencing on the old casino site and recent news of Champs Sports Bar getting a £700k makeover, it looks like he was wrong. Eccy Road is still thriving.
It looks like it will take around six or seven months to complete, but once finished, the new venue will be able to hold live events, conferences, celebrations and even weddings.
Where are the Nearest Casinos?
If you were hoping for a new casino to open up in place of Napoleons, you’re out of luck. Well, on Ecclesall Road anyway. There are plenty of alternatives for you, though. Sheffield still has three casinos for people to enjoy. There’s Grosvenor Casino on Duchess Road, Genting Casino at St Paul’s Place, or why not head over to the other Napoleons on Livesey Street.
Maybe you lived close to the old casino and didn’t want to head too far back into the City?
You’re only looking at one or two miles to the nearest one from the old site. If that still puts you off, consider playing at an online casino instead. You can get the feel of a real casino from the comfort of your own home. If you like the sound of playing at an online casino, there are sites like casinodeal.co.uk with dedicated to in-depth reviews on all of the top online casinos in the UK.
Of the three land casinos in Sheffield, two of those, Grosvenor and Genting, have online casinos too if you fancy either of those. Make sure you check out the welcome bonuses they have on offer before signing up. You may even get to use some of their online offers at their Sheffield land casinos, but always check the T&Cs of every offer before committing to anything.
Ecclesall Road – What Does the Future Hold?
The future’s bright for this area. You only have to look at the investment to realise how popular this part of Sheffield still is. Ok, so Baldwins Omega, a popular restaurant close to Ecclesall Road, also shut down last summer, with many saying that its closure would affect the trade in the area. However, they were wrong.
The Beer House on Ecclesall Road was praised in the Guardian recently as one of the top craft beer pubs in Sheffield. As already touched on, Champs Sports Bar underwent an incredible transformation recently too. Champs now boasts 12 TV screens, which is fantastic news for sports lovers. Everything is new in there now, it’s a great place to go, whereas before, it wasn’t the best place to enjoy a whole night. New furnishings and feature walls give this bar a ‘wow’ factor, and it’s already one of the places to go if you want to watch some sport and party the night away in Sheffield.
The new Lost and Found restaurant on Ecclesall Road that opened in Autumn of last year is also great. The list goes on. If you’re looking for an area in Sheffield to go and have a good night, Eccy Road is still one of the best places in the City to go to enjoy a fabulous night.
