We are coming to a time in the year where people want to find activities to do with friends to unwind a little. Unfortunately, we are still in the midst of a global pandemic, so going to concert venues and out to bars or restaurants may be out of the question for quite some time.

However, the CDC has stated that outdoor activities are among the safest activities you can do even during this time of uncertainty. Additionally, outdoor activities help you exercise, so for those looking to stay fit, but still want to have fun during the process, try out these 6 seriously healthy activities in nature that are fun.

1. Go for a Swim

Certain outdoor activities call for intense physical strength and can be difficult for aging individuals and those who are not already at the peak of personal physical fitness.

However, swimming is an activity that is enjoyable, but does not take a lot of effort to get a full workout. Swimming offers resistance training while splashing around with your family and friends. It also ensures you receive adequate vitamin D from the sun.

Swimming has shown to improve cardiovascular health and lower blood sugar and blood pressure, so you can get fit and have fun at the same time. Lakes, rivers, oceans, and pools can be found everywhere and there is no better way to cool off and enjoy the day than swimming – and for cold water swimming, remember those swimming caps.

2. Cycling

Believe it or not, there was a time where bicycles were used as general transportation. Cycling has become not merely a way to get from place to place, but a fun sport as well. Cycling can be done anywhere from parks, bike friendly highways, or even on mountain trails.

Additionally, cycling can be enjoyed by people of all ages and from all backgrounds. From the youngest, just starting out, to the oldest and most experienced cyclist, biking is an enjoyable outdoor activity for all.

3. Kayaking

Like swimming, kayaking does not take a completely physically fit person to enjoy it. All it takes is an inexpensive kayak to float along the water. Kayaks are made to withstand the rigors of rivers, but can also lend themselves to a slower pace.

For those just starting out kayaking, find a calm lake or shoreline to paddle around and get the feel for it. As you progress, you can move to larger and more intense rivers and rapid-filled bodies of water. The experience of kayaking is simply unmatched by other outdoor activities. It offers thrill and fun for people of all ages and activity levels.

Kayaking with family or friends gives you the ability to be outdoors, exercise, and enjoy the scenery. Kayaks come in a range of sizes and types, ideal for all experience levels.

4. Tennis

Sports are not for everyone, but tennis seems to be among the more unique sports varieties. Even those who are not actively invested in sports can enjoy a game of tennis. Chasing the ball around the court and hitting it over the net is remarkably enjoyable.

With tennis, you can also get the kids involved and all learn together. Tennis is a sport that can provide exercise and hours of fun for the whole family.

5. Take a Hike

No, we are not telling you to go away. Taking a hike is a great way to exercise and enjoy nature as it is intended. Hiking can be accomplished on flat trails through the wilderness for those who cannot contend with an uphill climb, so it is ideal for all activity levels and ages.

Hiking trails are found in all national parks and give you an opportunity to get up close and personal with nature. Bring along a camera for your journey and take pictures of wildlife while you enjoy the thrill of exercising in the great outdoors.

6. Meditation

Now part of your overall body health is connected to your mind. Although meditation may not seem like a very enjoyable task to those who want to always be on the go, it is remarkably beneficial. Taking time to meditate outdoors and enjoy sounds of nature helps you connect your mind with what is going on around you.

Some might not find this fun, but when your mind is relaxed through meditation and you carry less stress with you during the day, you can truly begin to enjoy life and have a lot of fun. Take the time to get alone, sit quietly, and listen to nature for just a little while. You will see a remarkable improvement in your mood and stress level.

The outdoors is out there waiting for you and if you have been inside for too long, take the time to get out and see what it has to offer. The great outdoors is the perfect place to find the fresh air you have been missing and reconnect with family and friends in a safe, healthy environment.
