Best Spring Dresses
By Kirsty Buttle
It’s that time again. Spring has sprung, and it’s brought along with it some of the most anticipicated trends of the year. Spring is the teaser season. It’s not quite summer, but you can start to unveil your skin from the layers it has been wrapped up in all winter.
2013 brings a mash up of monochrome, feminine flows of lace and clashes of colour, all splattered with some form of embellishment. Black and white sailed down the catwalks at Givenchy, Valentino and Celine, reflecting simplicity and minimalism. Keep it basic in the form of block colours and add metallic jewellery for eye catching glamour. My favourite version of this trend is the monochrome stripe bow detail dress by Apricot (left). The beach chair stripes are bang on trend this season, and it’s not an optical illusion when you see that it’s only £34!
Flowers, stripes and hypnotic swirls of colour all on one dress? I bet you’re thinking ‘No, no no!’ Well, we’re thinking ‘Yes yes yes!’ Caroline Charles (right) decided to take everything floral, coloured and patterened and turn it into a patchwork dress – and we like the results. Make yourself the centre of attention in this stylish show stopper. No accessorising needed, the piece itself speaks volumes. Team with black heels and clutch for a sexy spring style.
There has been a lot of chat about the swinging sixties being a major must look for this season. What better way to tackle this trend than with this cute A-line number. It nips in at the waist giving you a sumptuously sexy silhouette. The damask print (left) is sugary sweet and will look fabulous teamed with a pair of ballet pumps – add a bolero to complete the look. Perfect for those summer barbecues that we’re all looking forward to!
Florals seem to comeback every year, and this year shows no change. Keeping in with the time of year, think flower power when choosing your next spring dress. Little Mistress’ dress (right) combines the crucial elements: florals, chiffon and another booming trend: lace. Undoubtedly adding volumes of femininity to any outfit, lace is the perfect material for achieving the ultimate spring look. The touch of coral lifts the dress, adding a fresh and vibrant feel and will warm up any skin tone. Let the lace detail speak for itself by teaming with chunky bangles or a pair of statement earrings.
What happens when a new juice drink is launched? A new spring dress accompanies it of course! The new low calorie juice drink, Trop 50, sparked a collaboration with London based designer Richard Nicoll. The vibrant pink and orange floral printed dress (left) is based on the trademark Stella dress, perfect for spring. The dress is very exclusive, and is on sale for a limited time only. Available at Atelier-To-Go.com, only 50 have been produced. Retailing at £555, all profits made from the sales of the dress are being donated to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. This definitely counts as one of your five-a-day!
Looking for a more elegant spring dress? The combo lace dress by Sea NY (right) is the perfect dress to take you from day to night with minimal effort. The powder blue lace contrasts with the magnified black lace print on the lower half. Oozing sophistication and class, this dress is elegant yet so easy to wear. Feminine and sexy, you could wear opaque black tights and court shoes, or go bare legs with strappy sandals for ultimate seductive glamour. The detail speaks volumes, so don’t overdo it with too much accessorising – match silver earrings or a statement cuff to complete the look.
Deciding what look you want to embody this season looks like it’s going to be difficult – there’s just so much to choose from! From statement prints to quirky colour combos, SS13 rallies up a real montage of dresses for you to strut your style in.
