By Rachel Howard

Christmas 2020 – it’s probably not looking much like you predicted 12 months ago. But amongst all the uncertainty, there is one thing that will definitely be happening in one form or another and that’s Christmas shopping. Ok, we’re going to have to think outside the box a little this year and rely on the internet more than ever, but that doesn’t mean you need to struggle for ideas.

Beauty, skincare, and haircare may seem trivial at a time like this but, on the contrary, I believe it is the little boosts of self esteem, relaxation and self care that have actually helped many people to navigate the last few months. And why stop there? Christmas is a great time to gift your loved ones with the power to be the very best version of themselves. Plus, you could be supporting some small companies with the help they so desperately need. So, it’s a win-win!

Take a look at my best buys for Christmas 2020, across a variety of budgets, and bring some much-needed festive sparkle to your nearest and dearest this year.

Splashing out – £40 and over

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2020 luxury

Stylsmile Whitening Kit – £149.99
The idea of gifting someone the perfect smile may seem a little far-fetched, but not with this kit. Containing a sonic blue light toothbrush, whitening toothpaste, blue light tray and whitening gels, this box of goodies is a one-stop shop for white teeth. Quick and easy to use, it doesn’t require a huge time commitment or financial outlay in comparison to treatments offered by dentists. Within 6 days your smile should be brighter and whiter and, let’s face it, who doesn’t want that?!

Sensica Sensilift – £279
Buying someone an anti-ageing tool could be risky, so know your audience before leaping into this purchase! But if you’re sure no offence will be taken – or maybe if you’re buying it for yourself – the Sensilift should be at the top of your list. Taking only 5mins once a week, this gadget promises effects from the very first treatment. Designed to work on all areas of the face, the décolletage and the hands, the kit comes with a base gel that is applied to the target area before massaging with the Sensilift, which also automatically adjusts temperature to match your skin’s condition. The design is sleek, modern and easily transportable in a travel bag (included). Younger looking skin was never easier.

Monat Be Gentle Creamy Cleanser – £42
Monat Be Gentle Nourishing Moisturiser – £64
Monat is a luxury brand that never fails to impress me with their haircare and skincare, and their Be Gentle range is no exception. Specially designed for dry and sensitive skin, these products nourish and sooth skin, which as we head into the cold winter months, is especially important. Encased in their typically high quality, gorgeous packaging, these will look beautiful in anyone’s bathroom. The cleanser is rich, creamy and lightly scented, and the moisturiser feels like it’s giving your skin a drink. Although rich, it sinks in quickly and leaves the skin feeling soft, soothed and comfortable all day. Yes, these are pricey products, but you get what you pay for.

Funderm Pimple Buster Trio – £79
Teenage skin – we’ve all been there. From the odd pimple to cystic acne, it can have a severe impact on self confidence and mental health. Until relatively recently, the choices on offer were very mild face washes and spot treatments or medical intervention – and not much in between. Funderm are experts in skincare and have a range of treatments designed for all skin types. Designed to be easy to use, with a young aesthetic, the products range from gel treatments to cleansing foams and oil-free moisturisers. The Pimple Buster Trio contains a gel treatment, mask and a bottle of their Lavi Davi gummies – edible supplements that boost skin hydration, treat inflammation and pimples and unifies the skin tone. Most teenagers probably wouldn’t be able to afford a kit like this themselves, so Christmas could be the perfect way to get them into skincare and hopefully build their self confidence in the process.

Moo & Yoo Moo Hair Stars – £49.99
Moo & Yoo is a family-run business based in Scotland that specialises in natural, ethical and vegan beauty care products. For a start, the packaging is absolutely stunning. It would be perfectly at home in a 5* hotel. This gift set includes Miracle Shampoo, Miracle Conditioner and a peony blush soy wax candle. All presented in a beautiful box, this really would be a fabulous present for anyone – you can’t go wrong.

Perfect Purchases – £15-£40

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2020 presents 1

Stylpro Make-up Brush Cleaner – £39.99
You may well have been living under a rock if you haven’t already seen this gadget plastered all over social media. It’s the battery operated make-up brush cleaning and drying tool that’s seemingly taken the beauty world by storm. It’s an ingeniously simple idea – different sized attachments fit onto any sized make-up brush, which then attaches to the Stylpro enabling it to spin very quickly in a solution of either soap and water or the special cleanser (included). Brushes can then be dried using the same spinning action. In our “new normal”, we have never been so obsessed with cleanliness, and make-up brushes can be a breeding ground for bacteria. This gift will help to keep everything clean, free of germs and will, of course, make your make-up application a breeze.

Rapid Lash/Rapid Brow – £39.55/£36.95
In the last few years, false lashes and lash extensions have gone from being something reserved for the rich and famous to every day beauty treatments. But they certainly don’t come cheap, and in a world where beauty salons are having to close for lockdowns, wouldn’t it be great to be able to have naturally long, full looking lashes? Well, thanks to Rapid Lash, you can. In just 8 weeks, a daily application of the serum along the lash line can help to give you the natural lashes of your dreams. Rapid Brow can do the same for your eyebrows, so wave goodbye to microblading and drawing in fake brows every day. These two products could shave time off your morning routine, not to mention giving you the confidence to go make-up free every once in a while. I’m converted!

Forever Hydrating Serum – £34
Nothing says health and vitality like hydrated skin. It’s something that sounds like it should be easy to accomplish, but can be quite the opposite. But help is at hand from Forever in the form of their Hydrating Serum. With ingredients including aloe, hyaluronic acid, white tea and shea butter, this serum plumps skin and hydrates gently. The texture is lightweight, with a fresh, zesty scent.1-2 pumps a day will leave you with soft, hydrated skin and makes the perfect gift for any skincare addict.

Eve and Keel Essential Oil Chakra Rollers – £27
As we approach the end of 2020, I don’t think there would be many of us who would pass up some relaxation, time out and stress relief. One of the most effective ways to switch off from stress is via the use of essential oils. Eve and Keel have developed a range of Chakra Rollers to do just that. Put simply, these are small bottles of essential oils, with a roller ball dispenser, making them ideal to pop in your pocket or handbag to help calm you on the go. What makes these extra special is the addition of crystals within the bottles. Not only do these look attractive but they help to encourage a range of feelings including strength, courage, love, calm and protection. The packaging is beautiful, making these fragrances a really unique and thoughtful gift for any age.

Haer Susinum Hair Oil – £39
Glossy, healthy looking hair is a must have for most of us, but it’s not always easy to achieve. Colouring, heat and pollution can all take their toll on our tresses so Haer have developed their Susinum Hair Oil to help us out. Made from 100% natural ingredients, this is a lightweight, nourishing oil that doesn’t weigh the hair down or leave a heavy residue. It promotes shine, helps to reduce frizz and smooth the appearance of split ends. A little goes a long way, so for those lucky enough to receive one for Christmas, this little miracle worker should last well into 2021.

Tweezerfile Sharpener – £19.99
This may not be the most glamorous of my potential gift ideas, but it’s certainly one of the most practical. We probably all own at least one pair of tweezers, but have you ever considered that they may not be as sharp or precise as when you first bought them? Probably not. Tweezerfile have designed a sharpening tool to make your tweezers work more effectively and last longer. Working in a similar way to a nail file, it is designed to last for life, stopping tweezers from becoming blunt and allowing you to grip even the shortest hairs. I must admit I hadn’t even realised how blunt mine were until I gave this a go.

Mio Sun Drenched Body Wash – £19
Mio Golden Hour Illuminating Body Lotion – £26
Mio Skincare is a new discovery for me, but one I won’t be forgetting in a hurry. Natural, vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, their range of products cover everything from body washes, moisturisers, scrubs, firming serums and body oils. The body wash and body lotion I tried out had a gorgeous citrus scent and did exactly as promised – illuminated my skin beautifully, but thankfully, without a heavy glitter reside. Instead, my skin was left gently glowing and looking smooth and hydrated. These two products would be perfect for the summer time, dare I even say to take on holiday, and with a shelf life of 30 months (unopened) they will make the perfect Christmas present.

Stocking fillers – under £15

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2020 stocking fillers 1

Dr Pawpaw Christmas Tree Gift Set – £9.99
Dr Pawpaw Hand Health Kit – £10
Lip balms are always a great Christmas present, for a few reasons. They’re generally pretty cheap so make fantastic stocking fillers, anyone can wear them and the winter months take their toll on our lips so there’s never a better time to plough the moisture back in. Dr Pawpaw always have a really good selection of balms in their Christmas gift sets, and this year is no exception. The Christmas Tree Gift Set contains three travel sizes of their Multipurpose Soothing Balm – one original and two that are finished with a hint of a tint, meaning they can even be used on the cheeks. The texture is rich and glossy, but not gloopy, and being travel sized they are perfect for popping in your handbag or desk draw.

One of their other offerings this Christmas is very apt, and one that a few months ago, we might not even have considered. The Hand Health Kit contains a sanitiser spray and a 25ml of the Original Balm. Hand sanitiser is obviously a must-have for everyone these days and this one contains 80% alcohol, making it especially effective at killing bacteria. Follow up with the balm to replace any lost moisture and your hands with thank you for it.

Olew Original Oil – £13
Similar to the Haer oil mentioned above, this product is designed to promote growth, treat heat-damaged hair and smooth and add shine. It has a delicious, luxurious fragrance and should be used sparingly. At just £13 this makes an ideal stocking filler for anyone wanting to restore the condition of their hair.

Kind2 Solid Shampoo, Conditioner – £12.50/£15.95
As we become more environmentally aware, the target to reduce plastics and be kinder to nature is at the forefront of not only business minds but those of consumers too. In response to this, Kind2 have brought out a range of solid shampoos and conditioners. The range is vegan, free from plastics, soap, sulphates, parabens and silicons. What you’re left with is a product that is full of active plant extracts. These small bars of solid shampoo and conditioner last for up to 60 washes each – equal to two 200ml plastic bottles. The wash is just as effective as traditional shampoo, and they even sell special trays (ceramic and enamel) to keep your product on in order to minimise bathroom mess. It’s never been easier to be environmentally friendly – and have great hair!

So…? Pout Scrub and Pout Balm – £4 each
For a bargain price, you can gift someone the perfect pout courtesy of So…? They have brought out two pots – one a lip scrub and the other a balm, both being flavoured with a strawberry, fruity taste. The scrub is really effective at sloughing off dead skin and revealing the new skin underneath. It’s a dry, gritty exfoliator so don’t rub too hard and you certainly don’t need much but the finished effect is outstanding. Follow with the balm, which is light, non-greasy and easily absorbed. These are the perfect little gifts that will thrill anyone of any age on Christmas morning.

Ramer Sponges – from £2.15
Ramer Sponges have been on the go for 70 years and have made quite the name for themselves. They produce hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested sponges in a huge range of styles, sizes and colours. You might not immediately think of buying someone a sponge for Christmas, but when it comes to beauty fans, a Ramer sponge isn’t just a sponge. Their cosmetic sponges have won rave reviews for the application and removal of makeup at a fraction of the price of some more well-known brands. They also make facial cleansing sponges and even a cleansing shammy for sensitive skin. At such a good price point, you could afford to buy a few, they’re perfect for stocking fillers and secret santas.

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2020 stocking fillers 2

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Illuminating Body Lotion – £10.99
Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Illuminating Body Wash – £10.99
These two illuminating products from Shea Moisture use a blend of shea butter, coconut oil, hibiscus extract and songyi mushroom to brighten and improve skin tone. The fragrance of coconut and hibiscus could be used all year round thanks to its tropical yet warming aroma. They are deeply nourishing and provide the body with exactly what it craves during the winter months when central heating, changes in temperature and a lack of sunlight cause our skin to become dull and lifeless. The perfect treat to get your body ready for 2021!

31st State skincare – from £5.99
Aimed firmly at the teenage market, 31st State combines natural ingredients with funky packaging and fresh fragrances. With products including foaming face wash, skin clearing pads, spot control gel and roll-on deodorant, they are suitable even for sensitive skin. Sassy Shop Wax Melts – from £2.90
Although not technically beauty, I couldn’t leave this out as there’s nothing nicer than having a wax melt burning in the background while you’re having a pamper session. Sassy Wax have really cornered the market when it comes to wax melts, not only selling the bars but also the melters, room sprays and even bath and body products. Their melts smell amazing and come in fragrances including blueberry and vanilla, strawberry lily and sandalwood and patchouli dreams. They even have a monthly subscription service, so you’ll never find yourself running short. Their Christmas collection includes crackers and and a 12 Days of Christmas box.

So there you have it, everything you could possibly want to spoil the beauty lovers in your life this Christmas. Yes, this festive season may well be a little different, but let’s not let that spoil the tradition of gifting presents to those we love. In fact, there’s never been a better time to show some love, so happy shopping and happy Christmas!
