Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2018

by Rachel Howard

With beauty being such big business, it’s no surprise that the products available this Christmas are vast, luxurious and massively in demand. Ever since the last piece of tinsel was taken down at the start of the year, beauty companies have been planning their festive offerings for 2018, and having tried and tested many of them (all in the name of research of course!), I can tell you that they haven’t disappointed. Whether you’re spending a couple of pounds on a stocking filler, or splashing out on a luxury item, this guide aims to take the stress out of the decision making, and open your eyes to everything Christmassy, sparkly and beautiful. So grab a cuppa, or a glass of fizz, and read on…

Stocking Fillers Under £10

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2018 1

Although beauty gifts can often be at the higher end of the price scale, there are plenty of options for stocking fillers, secret Santas and those looking to smash Christmas on a budget. Here are a few of the best:

Matalan Seven Day Pamper Kit – £8
Who needs the 12 days of Christmas when you’ve got this handy little set?! A magical 7 days worth of Prosecco, cocktail and gin-themed bubble bath, shower gel and moisturiser.

Mavala Nail Colour Duo – £9.95
Mavala Nail Colour Bauble – £5.25
Mavala have been making top quality nail varnish for many years and this Christmas their gift sets are as good as ever. At the lower end of the price scale are these two beautifully packaged sets that any self-respecting nail addict would be thrilled to find under their Christmas tree. Ranging from bright, bold glitters to classy nudes, everyone is catered for.

So Eco Duo Makeup Brush Set – £7.50
Makeup tools are becoming increasingly popular, no more so than brushes. So Eco pride themselves on being cruelty free and vegan and vegetarian friendly. The brushes are double ended so you’re actually getting four tools for the price of two – considerably more bang for your buck. Blending, lining and packing on the shadow are made exceptionally easy by the hand cut and trimmed bristles and the softness makes them very gentle on the eyes.

Sleek Makeup Ultimate Lips Set – £8.50
2018 has seen Sleek Makeup go from strength to strength, and nothing demonstrates their quality more than their lipsticks. You will struggle to find better colour payoff, wear time and comfort for this price point. This set of four lipsticks includes two Matte Me Lip Cremes and two Matte Me Metallic Lip Cremes – perfect for anything the festive season throws at you.

Humble Toothbrush – £3.99
A toothbrush might seem like an odd Christmas pressie but if you’ve got someone to buy for who is eco-friendly, an animal lover and into all things natural, the Humble toothbrush will be the perfect added extra. Effective, budget friendly and good for the environment – what more do you need?

Purple Tree Miracle Lip Balms – £3.99
Perfect as a little extra or a secret Santa, these lip balms are packed with benefits. Coming in a range of flavours, they are suitable for men and women, and can be used not only as a lip balm, but also on the hands and nails as a moisturiser, on the eyebrows to nourish and tame brow hairs and even on the feet to help banish hard skin. For £3.99, that’s some serious value.

Westlab Himalayan Bath Soak – £5.99
Bath crystals may not seem as luxurious as cremes, bubble baths, oils etc, but they are incredibly effective in relaxation, muscle soothing and body cleansing. The gift of a healthy and soothed body is one anyone would be pleased to receive.

Dorco Classic Razor – £8.74
Razors make a great Christmas present as, unless you use disposables, they aren’t the sort of thing we often think to renew. Dorco is an American brand that specialise in high quality razors without the costly overheads of advertising – meaning you get a top notch razor for a pocket-money budget. The classic is a sleek men’s razor that not only looks the business but gets the job done brilliantly with minimal effort.

W7 Snow Bunny Grab & Go Makeup Kit- £9.95
For the younger generation, W7 are offering a great little kit that not only comes in a fab glittery makeup bag, but includes three fab products – a one-shade-suits-all lipstick, a gel mascara and Glocomotion – a highlighter, eyeshadow and shimmer all in one. Perfect for Christmas parties and New Years Eve festivities.

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2018 2

For a little more cash, the world of Christmas gifts opens up dramatically. For those people you want to spend a little more on, the world is your oyster. Here are just a few ideas to put a smile on the face of your loved ones this Christmas Day:

Superfacialist Vit C & Brighten Gift Set – £20
Superfacialist Rose Hydrate Gift Set – £16
Everyone loves a beauty gift set under the tree at Christmas. They just seem that bit more special than individual products. Superfacialist have smashed the gift set idea this year and these are two of the best. Skincare products can be risky when buying for others, but brightening and hydrating are two skincare benefits that 99% of people would be happy with. Especially during the winter months when skin can become dry, irritated and sore, these sets of cleansers, moisturisers, oils and scrubs are a godsend. And as they come in miniature form, they’re also perfect for travel.

Scentered I Want To Escape Candle and Balm Set – £27.50
Turning your home into a relaxed haven is something many of us strive to do, and candles can help transform a busy, hectic home into a tranquil, zen-like oasis. Scentered have come up with the ingenious idea of combining a luxury candle with the matching balm – designed to be worn on the pulse points to reset your mood. So shut the door, and transport yourself to sunnier, warmer more relaxed climes. A heavenly Christmas treat.

Bluebeard’s Revenge Soap Stack – £13.99
Many men may not put much thought into the soap/gel they shave with – until they try this stunner of a gift. Three soaps that are specially designed for shaving, they have beautiful scents and a texture that lathers effortlessly to give a closer shave than you ever thought possible. These soaps are huge and even with daily use, will last months. This is the gift that really will keep on giving throughout the year.

Love Boo Marvellous Mummy Kit – £24.99

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2018 3

Mavala Nail Colour Trio – £14.95
As with the baubles and nail duos outlined in the earlier section, Mavala have come up with another great gift idea. This time a trio of their luxury nail colours, gift boxed especially for Christmas. Available in a range of colours, I especially like the nude trio, two natural shades that will go with everything, alongside a silver glitter that will bring some festive sparkle to any outfit.

The Base Body Company Black Coconut Coffee Scrub – £15.99
The Base Body Company Coffee and Peppermint Scrub – £15.99
The Base Body Company Blood Orange Himalayan Salt Scrub – £15.99
Silky smooth, moisturised, glowy skin is a something most of us strive for all year round. Many scrubs can be harsh, irritating and counterproductive. However, The Base Body Company have come up with the answer – a skincare range designed to “detox your skin from polluted urban environments and instantly boost texture and hydration”. The use of coffee improves blood flow and coconut and jojoba oil nourishes the skin resulting in a glow like no other. The packaging is beautiful, and I for one would be thrilled to find a pot of this under my Christmas tree. It’s brilliant.

Jack Black Balm Squad – £19.50
Lip balms are often tinted with colour meaning men can be a little afraid of them, resulting in dry, chapped lips that no one wants to get close to under the mistletoe. Jack Black men’s skincare have come to the rescue. A gift set of three lip balms in masculine packaging and with unisex flavours including Basil Lemon and Natural Mint and Shea. These little beauties also contain SPF 25 so they protect against the sun too. Perfect for the outdoorsy man in your life.

Neek is an Australian skincare and makeup brand that specialises in natural, vegan, eco-friendly products that are not tested on animals. Their lipsticks are the perfect gift – the colour range is great so there’s something for everyone and the texture is beautiful. Add to that the modern packaging and you’re onto a winner.

Sleek Makeup All Day All Night Gift Set – £20
As well as the lipstick set mentioned earlier, Sleek have brought out a gift set that will cover all your bases this festive season. Featuring a full size Matte Me Metallic Lip Cream in Electroplated Nude, i-Art Precision Liquid Eye Colour in Minimalism, Dip It Liquid Eyeliner and the Distorted Dreams Highlighting Palette featuring two powders and three cream formulas. It’s everything you need to shimmer like a glitter ball this Christmas.

Tangle Angel Brush and Keyring Set – £19.95
Keeping your hair in tip-top condition can be very difficult during the festive season, what with the weather and overuse of heat appliances such as hairdryers, straighteners and curling wands. One way to keep your hair healthy is to thoroughly, yet gently, detangle. The Tangle Angel brush has been specially designed to glide through the hair without pulling. This Christmas they have brought out a gift set that includes a full size brush and a smaller travel size one with a keyring attachment, which would also be perfect for kids.

At the other end of the scale to the aforementioned So Eco makeup brushes is this technological whizz. What might seem like a gimmick at first glance is actually a very clever piece of kit. All of these products are luxurious and excellent quality, but special mention must go to the star of the show – Fairy Godmother. Olverum Dry Body Oil – £40
A body oil could be seen as a bit of a “princess product” – not an essential and a step too far for some. However, it makes the perfect present as it really is stuffed full of benefits for the skin. This therapeutic dry oil mist is enriched with Alaria esculenta extract, which is known to boost the synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid, preserving skin’s firmness and elasticity. It is more of a ritual than a chore, and the beautiful scent evokes thoughts of luxury spas and treatments. It’s utter bliss.

Christmas Beauty Gift Guide 2018 RemingtonRemington Advanced Colour Protect Hairdryer – £79.99
Remington Keratin Protect Straighteners – £99.99
Remington is a brand that have been around since 1937, yet always keeps up with the latest technology, trends and designs. This Christmas they have brought out their Keratin Protect range, including a hairdryer, straighteners, curling wand and heated brushes. All products are infused with keratin and almond oil, which provide ultimate protection without compromising on results. I tried out the hairdryer and straightens and was massively impressed with both. During the festive season, when your hair is taking a battering, it is especially important to protect it as best you can. This starts right here, and all the products in this range would make a fantastic present and be beneficial well into 2019 and beyond.

Titanic Spa, Huddersfield

We all have that certain someone who is difficult to buy for. And I’m sure we’ve all fallen victim to the “Oh, I’ll just get them a voucher” situation. However, gift vouchers don’t have to be lacking in thought or originality. Titanic Spa in Huddersfield is a haven of tranquillity and would make the perfect location for a post-Christmas day of pampering and relaxation. Gift vouchers for spa days and overnight spa breaks are available, so why not treat your loved one to a day/night off the usual routine – you can’t do better than that!

It’s worth remembering that the prices quoted here are the RRP, and in the run up to Christmas many brands are offering discount codes, sales and special offers. So shop savvy and make your pennies stretch as far as possible! Have a beautiful Christmas!
