Bradford-born singer-songwriter with DIY-attitude sings, writes, records, mixes and masters all his own material…

YOUR NAME: Tom McKenzie
WHAT DO YOU DO/PLAY? I sing and play guitar, ukelele, double bass, violin (I’ll save you some time – if it has strings I’ll play it!).
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING MUSIC? I have been writing and recording music since I was a teenage angst-filled 15-year-old, but (thankfully) my music has changed a lot since then…

You’ll be supporting local and unsigned music, you’ll make me the happiest guy in town and, finally, you might even actually like it..!

WHERE DO YOU SOUND BEST – FESTIVAL, CLUB, BEDROOM – OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
My favourite gigs to play are quiet, intimate venues with low lighting.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST …
RECORD? I’ll let you know when it happens!
CD? Coldplay – A Rush Of Blood To The Head.
DOWNLOAD? Just looked it up: Ed Sheeran – ‘The A Team’.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES RIGHT AND YOU’VE GOT A MANSION AND A SUPERMODEL GIRL/BOYFRIEND, WHAT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INDULGENCE?
The best session musicians I can get. And an orchestra.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG AND YOU’VE ACRIMONIOUSLY BROKEN UP CITING HUGE MUSICAL DIFFERENCES, WHAT DO YOU FALL BACK ON?
The shed in my garden where I record all my music, and my cat.

“I was a teenage angst-filled 15-year-old”

PLEASE CITE SOME INTER-BAND MUSICAL DIFFERENCES:
Ah – you haven’t asked me why I’m a solo artist… Usually it’s a debate between going for a live feel versus perfectionism when recording.
