introducing-logoEclectic York-based electric blues with hints of reggae, rockabilly, country, jazz and more…

YOUR NAME: Andy Wilson
BAND NAME: These and the Other Guy
WHAT DO YOU DO/PLAY? Blues rock but varied: from electric blues to smoky ballads via rock, reggae, rockabilly, jazz, country and more.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER?
Three years in a couple of slightly different forms.

these and the other guy york bandGIVE US THREE REASONS WHY WE SHOULD TRACK DOWN, LISTEN AND DISCOVER YOUR MUSIC?
1. A blog review praised lead singer Alex Botham’s “versatile and emotive vocals…. she seems to switch effortlessly between genres while still having a distinctive style”.
2. The band is a motley crew of all ages bringing years of experience from backgrounds in rock, blues, country and jazz. The result is a rich mix and nobody so far has been able to say we’re quite like anybody else.
3. We play original material: quirky, lyric-rich, ironic but passionate and, we’re told, ear worms.

“A motley crew of all ages”

WHERE DO YOU SOUND BEST – FESTIVAL, CLUB, BEDROOM – OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
Intimate venues. But doesn’t all music (except maybe classical) work best like that?

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES RIGHT AND YOU’VE GOT A MANSION AND A SUPERMODEL GIRL/BOYFRIEND, WHAT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INDULGENCE?
You don’t get it do you, Mr Questionnaire? We couldn’t be having a better time than we are now. (Cliché #73. But even clichés can be true.)

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG AND YOU’VE ACRIMONIOUSLY BROKEN UP CITING HUGE MUSICAL DIFFERENCES, WHAT DO YOU FALL BACK ON?
We have an insurance policy: we made sure we didn’t involve anybody with a hint of an ego issue.

PLEASE CITE SOME INTER-BAND MUSICAL DIFFERENCES…
There’s not a single one. Maybe because everybody’s skilled and experienced in their own musical genres and are loving the way all those influences are coming together.

these and the other guy singleWHO ARE YORKSHIRE’S FINEST IN CULTURE, SPORT AND MUSIC?
King Courgette are brilliant. Very funny, good ol’ southern boys (well southern Yorkshire really and with terrible Nashville accents) and they’re great musicians.

“Influences coming together”

NAME YOUR SUPERGROUP – WHO’S PLAYING WHAT AND WHO’S ON VOCALS?
Vocals:  Marianne Faithfull
Bass:    Victor Wooten (Bela Fleck)
Drums: Jim Keltner (Played with everybody!)

GO SEE THIS FILM: Cabaret.
GO READ THIS BOOK: To Kill A Mockingbird.
GREAT LOST BAND/ARTIST: What do you mean by ‘lost’? Ry Cooder’s undervalued and consistently brilliant.
WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD SUPPORTING: UKIP
LONDON, L.A OR LEEDS? Refuse to choose

AND FINALLY… AS YOU LEAVE THE STAGE, WHAT ARE YOUR PARTING WORDS?
Well, on the tombstone it’ll say: “So, is the grass greener on the other side?”

Put That Down the debut single from the self titled album is out July 28 – listen at Soundcloud or follow on Facebook
