Introducing: Luna Kings

Hook-heavy Leeds four-piece…

YOUR NAME: Ian Hutchinson.
BAND NAME: Luna Kings.
WHAT DO YOU PLAY? Bass.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER AS A BAND? 8 Months as a band, 18 years playing.

GIVE US 3 REASONS WHY WE SHOULD TRACK DOWN, LISTEN AND DISCOVER YOUR MUSIC?
It’s going to change the world forever, it’s got great melodic hooks, and we’re a great rock band!

WHERE DO YOU SOUND BEST – FESTIVAL, CLUB, BEDROOM – OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
In a nice sweaty club, with a decent PA.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST …
RECORD? No records but I did have Peter and the Wolf on tape.
CD? Gothic by Paradise Lost – I was working in a fish and chip shop (I only lasted one day) and this is what I bought with my wage.
DOWNLOAD? Mourning Golden Morning by EF, a great Swedish post rock band.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES RIGHT AND YOU’VE GOT A MANSION AND A SUPERMODEL GIRLFRIEND, WHAT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INDULGENCE?
I’d probably have extra arms surgically attached so I could play two basses at the same time. Luna Kings would probably end up being a jazz funk band if that did happen… hope it doesn’t!

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG AND YOU’VE ACRIMONIOUSLY BROKEN UP CITING HUGE MUSICAL DIFFERENCES, WHAT DO YOU FALL BACK ON?
I’d fall back on my climbing skills (I do a bit of bouldering in my spare time) and become a master jewel thief or cat burglar – well either that or I’d be on the dole wondering where it all went wrong.

PLEASE CITE SOME INTER-BAND MUSICAL DIFFERENCES…
Pete (drummer) really likes classical and jazz funk, he’s actually really good at ballet.

WHO ARE YORKSHIRE’S FINEST IN CULTURE, SPORT AND MUSIC?
Music – Spacehog (Leeds and Yorkshire’s finest export). Culture – Barbara Hepworth (love her sculptures). Unfortunately I’m not a massive sport fan so I can’t answer the sport one.

luna kings yorkshireNAME YOUR SUPERGROUP – WHO’S PLAYING WHAT AND WHO’S ON VOCALS?
Vocals: Royston Langdon – great frontman and bass player with Spacehog, his vocals and song writing are so underrated, plus he’s a Leeds lad.
Guitar: Stuart Braithwaite – amazing guitarist from Mogwai, he knows when to rock out and has a great ear for melodies.
Drums: Keith Moon – he had everything you want from a drummer: talent, charisma, attitude and he really knew how to hit those drums.
Bass: Cliff Burton – this guy inspired me to play bass. At times he played bass like a lead guitar, his solos were amazing and he also had a great melodic ear.

GO SEE THIS FILM: The Elephant Man
GO READ THIS BOOK: I Am Legend (the book’s great, the film is terrible).
WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD SUPPORTING: Justin Bieber, not for all the tea in China.
LONDON, L.A OR LEEDS?: Leeds!!!

AND FINALLY… AS YOU LEAVE THE STAGE, WHAT ARE YOUR PARTING WORDS.
It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye!
