Huw Eddy and The Carnival band interview

introducing new yorkshire band artist

Channelling folk rock’s finest in their adopted
Yorkshire city…

YOUR NAME: Huw Thomas.
BAND NAME: Huw Eddy & The Carnival.
WHAT DO YOU DO/PLAY? Singer/ Guitar.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER AS A BAND/PLAYING MUSIC? About 2 years give or take.

GIVE US 3 REASONS WHY WE SHOULD TRACK DOWN, LISTEN AND DISCOVER YOUR MUSIC?
We make music that we like to think makes you feel something, its passionate, uplifting and emotive.

WHERE DO YOU SOUND BEST – FESTIVAL, CLUB, BEDROOM – OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
We sound pretty damn good in a sweaty festival tent but we also like to think we sound good blasted out of your bedroom speakers or through your headphones as you stare out the window whimsically on a bus.

“Extremely open-minded”

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST…
RECORD? Our first proper record will be this one. And we are very excited about it.
CD? Our first CD was a mix tape of our singles over the past few years.
DOWNLOAD? Our first download is our single called ‘Fading’.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES RIGHT AND YOU’VE GOT A MANSION AND A SUPERMODEL GIRL/BOYFRIEND, WHAT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INDULGENCE?
I’ll buy myself some glorious collection of ludicrously expensive acoustic guitars. I don’t even want to think of what the other boys would do as they’re already pretty over indulgent already! We’ll focus on this record and tour first!

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG AND YOU’VE ACRIMONIOUSLY BROKEN UP CITING HUGE MUSICAL DIFFERENCES, WHAT DO YOU FALL BACK ON?
I’d probably do something in music, be that manage others or promote gigs, or I might set up a micro pub in a rural village and live there with 18 otter hounds.

CITE SOME INTER-BAND MUSICAL DIFFERENCES…
Luckily, we don’t share too many musical differences! We all love different genres but it doesn’t stand in the way when we come to writing for this project. We are all extremely open-minded when it comes to music and can find enjoyment in most styles!

WHO ARE YORKSHIRE’S FINEST IN CULTURE, SPORT AND MUSIC?
There are some fantastic bands and artists in Yorkshire, and Leeds especially. Some up and coming bands such as Ramona Rose, Fizzy Blood, Heir, Household Dogs and Mamilah to name a few are ones to check out. In terms of culture we are all totally in love with Leeds itself, having all adopted it as our home for the last five years. The culture in terms of the art scene, music, dance and drama is phenomenal and we can only see it going from strength to strength. There’s so much to see, do and get involved in, which is why right now we believe it to be one of the best cities in the UK to be living.

NAME YOUR SUPERGROUP – WHO’S PLAYING WHAT AND WHO’S ON VOCALS?
For me it would be: Nick Drake – vocals & guitar; J. Tillman – vocals & key; Keith Richards – guitar; Lemmy – bass; Ringo Star –drums.

GO SEE THIS FILM: Searching for Sugarman.
GO READ THIS BOOK: As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, Laurie Lee.
GREAT LOST BAND/ARTIST: Fighting Caravans.
WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD SUPPORTING: Anyone from The X-Factor.
LONDON, L.A OR LEEDS?: Leeds/London.

AND FINALLY… AS YOU LEAVE THE STAGE, WHAT ARE YOUR PARTING WORDS.
Thanks for singing, dancing and drinking, see you at the bar!
