A Q&A With Irian Darkwood

Canadian rock and metal artist…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
My latest release, ‘Light at The End of The Tunnel’ came out April 4, 2025. For me, it’s a message of hope and recovery, to let people know that, no matter how dark it gets, there are always better times coming.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
My team is in Sweden, so it can be a bit difficult to send from Canada to there. Thank goodness for computers.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
Izzy Ander (Izzy von Scarecrow) produced the song. She brought a lot of life into the production. It was a good collaboration where we sent files back and forth and after a lot of redoes we got where we are today. Izzy is a true professional and a great person to work with!

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I would like the listener to take away that message of hope and recovery, and know that they’re not alone in the fight.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
It’s pretty straightforward actually. I often see something or experience something, and it gives me an idea. I’ll write it down, either on my phone or a piece of paper or something, then take it home and write a poem. Then I send it over to my team and they look at it, set it up to put into song format, and we go from there.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
I really love Lzzy Hale. She’s an incredible human being, very energetic, professional, and I’ve been watching her from an early stage in her career. I find her really inspiring.

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
Personally, I would love to play in Europe, especially Sweden, mostly because that’s where my team and some studios are for me there. They have a really good music scene.

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
I choose ‘Greensleeves’ because it’s funny.

What ambitions do you have for your career?
To record as much music as possible and get it out there for people to listen to and enjoy.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Thanks for coming out – have a great day/night! I don’t know if I would say anything really inspiring.
