A Q&A with Glaascats

Dreamy DIY alt-rock…
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Dust’. It can have several meanings — you may find hints of something untouched or a metaphor with time. We chose this title because we find it modest, small and yet powerful.
‘Dust’ is the accumulation of seasons, a two-year ride upon bloom and decay. A musical journey travelling through bright dark lands, catching winds of hope and doubt. A finger draws a line through the dust and within, paths unfold.
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
Knowing when to stop and when to release the songs.
Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
We produced it ourselves. Jonathan did the recording, mix and master. Amelia did the artwork and design. We enjoy being able to have our own schedule for recording and releases, learning to be self-produced and seeing our music evolve with every release.
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
We’d like our music to be a moment of contemplation. We’d like for the listener to enjoy our music as much as we do.
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
We get together to assemble different parts created individually. It’s democratic — each has their say. Some songs are born through jamming. There aren’t any rules; some songs come naturally, and others take several seasons to blossom.
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Crumb, Blonde Redhead, Sonic Youth, Osees/Thee Oh Sees, Beach House and many others.
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
We’d like to tour in France.

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
We’d pick ‘Anesthesia’ because it passes through quite distinct parts. It grows as the song goes.
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Our ultimate ambition is to be able to make a living off what we love to do.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
We had a great time with you — take care and thank you all for staying with us.
