A Q&A With Courtney Hadwin

Pop Rock Energy and Soulful Storytelling…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Spellbound’ came out on February 21st and is the first single from my upcoming album! I really wanted to start with this song because it gives a great taste of what’s to come.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
Maybe writing it! The lyrics are very vulnerable, and I had never spoken about this situation out loud to anyone. I hate expressing my feelings, so singing and writing about it made it a little easier.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
Kevin Bowe produced the track, and it all started with a little riff he played on guitar—it was like magic star dust! The live musicians on the track really helped bring the song to life.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I love that songwriting allows me to write about things I’m scared to say out loud. If my music helps just one person get out of bed and feel like they can conquer the next day, then I’ve done my job. Music is my first language, and I love that I can use it to help someone.

How does a track normally come together?
It’s different for every song. It could start with a title, a guitar riff, a melody, or just having a bad day and needing to write. ‘Spellbound’ came from a guitar riff, and everything else just followed!

A Q&A With Courtney Hadwin

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Maybe James Brown—he’s the guy that started all of this for me. He showed me that I didn’t have to be a pop princess, I could be true to myself. I love music where it feels like someone is pouring their soul out and telling their story, and I also love music that just makes you want to get up and dance!

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I’d love to visit Australia—mainly because I just really want to go there! But honestly, I’d happily perform anywhere that would have me. Being on stage feels like home.

What ambitions do you have for your career?
I’d love to do a world tour! I love everyone who listens to and appreciates my music, and I want them to experience the full Courtney experience—singing this album together in the same room. Performing is my favourite thing in the world!

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Probably, “What’s the food option for tonight?” As soon as I come off stage, I get this huge buzz of excitement and need food! Food, music, and sleep are the best things in the world—I don’t need anything else.
