Searching For the Young Soul Rebels

30th Anniversary Special Edition

Album Review

by Matt Callard

To the public at large Dexy’s are the scruffy dungaree band with the catchy wedding stomper about Eileen that nobody knows the words to.

searching for the young soul rebels 30th coverTo music lovers they’re soul boys out of time, releasing three magnificently unique eighties albums before the classic rock star meltdowns.

But to their aficionados – and there are plenty – their brief, passionate six-year existence is a miracle, especially when set against the horror show of most chart-topping eighties pop.

“Bristles with outsider energy”

This re-issue of their debut album still swaggers with punk-spirited pride, still bristles with outsider energy and still packs in more rousing choons than any band who’ve ever been put on a fitness regime by their rather demanding front man should expect to supply.

A worthy tribute to one of the landmark debut albums.
