Terry’s Chocolate Shop and Tea Room New Site for Carluccio’s in York

Carluccio’s will unveil its second York restaurant this month on St Helen’s Square. Opening 27th March on the site of what was the city’s iconic Terry’s Chocolate Shop, Carluccio’s first ‘new generation’ restaurant in York aims to bring fresh modern Italian cuisine, and the very best of Antonio Carluccio’s homeland, to the city.

Original features, such as the chocolate shop’s confectionery cabinets, timber panelled walls, brass lighting and parquet flooring, contrast beautifully with contemporary furniture and modern artwork. The grand sweeping staircase leads to a first floor with deli bar, and balconies overlooking the square.

Carluccio’s York: “Craft beers and plenty of prosecco”

The all-day menu takes you from coffee and breakfast through to cocktails and dinner. Signature dishes celebrate modern twists on Italian classics such as crab macaroni to start, followed by slow cooked duck pappardelle with pork, pancetta and mushrooms, or a rich mushroom risotto with a hint of chilli and truffle oil.

Each is hand-stretched using slow-proven dough to create a thin and crispy base, and is topped with the best Italian ingredients including the finest buffalo mozzarella, 18-month aged Parma ham and nduja – a spicy pork salumi.

The ground floor Terry’s Bar pays homage to the chocolatier, launching a new selection of Signature cocktails sitting alongside an exclusively Italian wine list, craft beers and plenty of prosecco. Customers can pop in for an aperitvo or a pre-theatre drink and enjoy a selection of small plates. Alternatively, there’s the Grandioso Board with Parma ham, salami ventricina abruzzese, prosciutto cotto, chicken, caponata bruschetta, ravioli fritti and poponcini peppers with pesto.

Diners can also take a little taste of Italy home with Carluccio’s award-winning range of regional Italian products. Finest ingredients, including pasta, pesto, balsamic and olive oil, sit alongside artisan gifts of chocolates, fine wines, biscuits and Antonio’s cookbooks.

The new York Carluccio’s is at St. Helen’s Square, York, YO1 8QW – opens March 27
