Countryside Live brings together the best of rural life and a fun day out – and now is your chance to win tickets to be part of what is the tenth anniversary of the popular event.

Held on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October 2012, the little sister of the famous Great Yorkshire Show is packed with activities and fun for all ages. Organisers the Yorkshire Agricultural Society have lined up a host of exciting attractions for this year’s show, which are sure to prove popular with the thousands of visitors who flock to the event each year.

With 90 per cent of the action happening indoors, Countryside Live is guaranteed to be a success, whatever the weather. The animals are the stars of the event, with competitive classes for cattle, sheep, horses, pigeons and poultry. There will also be the chance to test your knowledge of different pig breeds, plus the dog agility demonstrations will again delight the crowds.

For the first time, the event will host an equine special with the grand final of the Northern Show Cross Series, which takes place on Sunday 21 October in the Main Ring. It’s an all-action competition with show jumping followed by a round of cross country jumps. Making a welcome return is the contest to find Britain’s most talented new showjumper, with equestrian Olympic stars Graham and Tina Fletcher in the judges’ hot seat.

Also back by popular demand are Carol and Philip Mellin, stars of TV’s ‘The Dales’ programme, and then there’s Diggerland Experience, which last year saw a host of youngsters queuing up to take the controls of a mechanical digger!

If you’ve ever pictured yourself as a modern-day Robin Hood, then there’s plenty of opportunity to test your archery skills, as well as get involved in a wide range of country crafts. And new for 2012 is ferret racing – sure to prove fun! Another popular aspect of Countryside Live is the Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Show, and visitors can also enjoy the tug of war competitions and Richard Savoury’s fun-filled Sheep Show! And don’t forget the Food Zone, Farm Zone and plenty of shopping opportunities!
