the froot 67 interview introducing the band

New psych 4-piece from Hull – sixties influences run riot…

YOUR NAME: Louie Donoghue, Zach Penrose, Stevie Newby & Jack Newton.
BAND NAME: The Froot ‘67.
WHAT DO YOU DO/PLAY? Psychedelic, blues, progressive, rock n roll music.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER AS A BAND/PLAYING MUSIC? About two years properly with drums in.

GIVE US 3 REASONS WHY WE SHOULD TRACK DOWN, LISTEN AND DISCOVER YOUR MUSIC?
Cause we are going for a style that is overlooked in a lot of ways.
We try and make our songs as interesting as we can.
And we have fun and work hard to get our music heard.

WHERE DO YOU SOUND BEST – FESTIVAL, CLUB, BEDROOM – OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
I’d like to say we sound best at a festival because you get a big buzz when there’s a good crowd. Its class!

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST RECORD?
If you’re talking about us as a group then we recorded a little EP called ‘Seven Past Eight’ when we first started as a full band… but in general my first CD was Iron Maiden, haha.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES RIGHT AND YOU’VE GOT A MANSION AND A SUPERMODEL GIRL/BOYFRIEND, WHAT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INDULGENCE?
To buy a home studio and live there…  create the best album of all time!

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG AND YOU’VE ACRIMONIOUSLY BROKEN UP CITING HUGE MUSICAL DIFFERENCES, WHAT DO YOU FALL BACK ON?
I suppose we would try and go into studio work like session playing… but that’s future stuff, haha.

CITE SOME INTER-BAND MUSICAL DIFFERENCES…
Well, we all have our differences in music taste… As a whole we all dig the same style and bands, however, we all have little off-shoots that we disagree on like prog stuff. Metal stuff usually gets us going on little rants with each other.

The Black Delta Movement are obviously a big one as we do similar style in some ways. They are a massive sounding band and great live. Also LIFE! They always rip it up live and their new single ‘Euromillions’ is class! And Vulgarians are too good.

NAME YOUR SUPERGROUP – WHO’S PLAYING WHAT AND WHO’S ON VOCALS?
Personally… I would have Paul Rogers (Free, Bad Company) on vocals. Jimmy Page (Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin) on guitar. Ronny Wood (The Faces, Rolling Stones) rhythm guitar. Greg Lake (King Crimson, ELP) bass and vocals. And either… John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Bill Ward (Black Sabbath) or Neil Smith (Alice Cooper) on drums. Or every member of The Beatles or Beach Boys!

GO SEE THIS FILM: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
GO READ THIS BOOK: One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
GREAT LOST BAND/ARTIST: Too many, but Vulgarians.
WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD SUPPORTING: Nobody, it’s all good stuff!
LONDON, L.A OR LEEDS? L.A. mayn, haha.

AND FINALLY… AS YOU LEAVE THE STAGE, WHAT ARE YOUR PARTING WORDS.
“Gotta keep those loving-good vibrations happening.”
