Wakefield-born, 18-years-old, songwriting prizes. World at feet, etc…

YOUR NAME: Lily Finlay.
WHAT DO YOU DO/PLAY? Voice, guitar, piano, ukulele.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING MUSIC? For the past 6 years.

GIVE US 3 REASONS WHY WE SHOULD TRACK DOWN, LISTEN AND DISCOVER YOUR MUSIC?
1) Within the music industry the majority of content is centred around alcohol/drugs/sex, and I want to be writing songs that young women can hopefully relate to, without promoting the, often dangerous, partying lifestyle that is romanticised in society so much.
2) I aim to be a positive influence from the perspective of being part of the LGBT+ community and yet gaining success by writing honestly about my experiences, despite the struggles that many LBGT+ people face for being their true selves.
3) My music is completely honest and autobiographical; it’s the closest thing you could get to ripping out a page of a teenage girls’ diary really! Music is my outlet and the songs you hear from me will always be my most authentic and vulnerable self.

WHERE DO YOU SOUND BEST – FESTIVAL, CLUB, BEDROOM – OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
Probably in my bedroom; that’s where all my songs come to life.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST…
RECORD? None!
CD? Noah and The Whale – Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down.
DOWNLOAD? Ed Sheeran’s + Album.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES RIGHT AND YOU’VE GOT A MANSION AND A SUPERMODEL GIRL/BOYFRIEND, WHAT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INDULGENCE?
I’d be quite happy in a cosy smaller space; I’d probably fill it with dogs and a grand piano for an indulgence.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG AND YOU’VE ACRIMONIOUSLY BROKEN UP CITING HUGE MUSICAL DIFFERENCES, WHAT DO YOU FALL BACK ON?
I’d still be writing songs in my bedroom because it’s my passion, but I’d probably try get into event management as I wouldn’t want to leave the music industry completely – gigs are my happy place!

WHO ARE YORKSHIRE’S FINEST IN CULTURE, SPORT AND MUSIC?
Alt-J from Leeds are doing amazing at the moment; their songs ‘Breezeblocks’ and ‘In Cold Blood’ are on all of my playlists recently. I also saw The Pigeon Detectives recently at Live At Leeds Festival, their stage presence is insanely good.
