Introducing KOYO

Share:

Shoegaze rewired. With added sax. From Leeds.

YOUR NAME: Huw Edwards.
BAND NAME: KOYO.
WHAT DO YOU DO/PLAY? Lead Vocals, Guitar.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER AS A BAND/PLAYING MUSIC? Since 2015 / started piano lessons at around 5-years-old.

GIVE US 3 REASONS WHY WE SHOULD TRACK DOWN, LISTEN AND DISCOVER YOUR MUSIC?
1) You don’t know what you’re missing until you’ve tried it. 2) We have a really good drummer. 3) We think you might like it.

WHERE DO YOU SOUND BEST – FESTIVAL, CLUB, BEDROOM – OR SOMEWHERE ELSE?
I can only imagine our music would go down best at a festival, somewhere around sunset…

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST…
RECORD? Mastodon’s The Hunter
CD? ‘Music’ by Madonna! I prefer to say Hybrid Theory though, by Linkin Park.
DOWNLOAD? Very random but according to iTunes my first ‘legal’ download was ‘Honey Bee’ by Stevie Ray Vaughan. I had to study it once.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES RIGHT AND YOU’VE GOT A MANSION AND A SUPERMODEL GIRL/BOYFRIEND, WHAT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INDULGENCE?
Probably some kind of hypothetical souvenir from a significant moment or turning point that led to that level of success. Maybe that moment passed already and it’ll come into perspective later down the line.

SO, WHEN IT ALL GOES WRONG AND YOU’VE ACRIMONIOUSLY BROKEN UP CITING HUGE MUSICAL DIFFERENCES, WHAT DO YOU FALL BACK ON?
The solo album of course! It’d be cool getting into producing other artists somewhere later on.

PLEASE CITE SOME INTER-BAND MUSICAL DIFFERENCES…
I wouldn’t say there are any artists that one of us love and the rest of us hate. However, some of us might obsess over a band where others don’t quite get it. Examples: Rush! You know that feeling when you feel like a song has just changed your life and you go to show someone else and it totally falls on deaf ears? Like a lot of bands though, most of our musical differences come when we’re writing and there’s a disagreement in the direction we want to take it. But I think we’ve learnt to trust each other and give each other the space to take something where they’re going in their head. Usually in the end it comes together and we’re on the same page again. Trust is really the key in any kind of relationship.
